I feeling a bit Michael Corleone right now. Apparently, B-Dawk is now a Denver Bronco.
A little history: I grew up a Denver Bronco fan. Was it the colors? Was it the team? Well, no, it was probably John Elway. I always loved the underdog. Sure, he had that funny walk and couldn’t win the big game for shit (pre-running game), but I always rooted from him (even though he now says exceedingly stupid things about the need for short hair in football).

John Elway doing his thing
When I was in 5th grade I had a party for Super Bowl XXIV aka Bronco beatdown. I split the room in two with tape on the floor: one side for the Broncos, one for the 49ers. I was the only one on the Bronco side. Apparently my friends knew better.
Fast forward, 1996. The Jacksonville Jaguars just beat the seemingly superior Broncos in the first round of the playoffs. Problem was, I grew up in Jacksonville. All night my “friends” called me to ask if I wanted to go to the stadium with them to celebrate the win. They thought that was really funny. Well, I got the last laugh the next few years as the Broncos sent Elway out in style with Super Bowl wins.
Ever since then, I haven’t been a really big Bronco fan. I liked Jake “the Snake” Plummer and any RB that gained 1000 yards. Yet, with the firing of Mike “the Rat” Shanahan, the last holdover from the Elway era, I thought I was done with the Broncos for good. That plus fantasy football keeps me rooting more for individuals than teams.

Melissa Stark wonders if Brian Dawkins will be better than John Lynch as a Bronco.
What other reason could I have to root for them? They have this ridiculously young coach who I don’t give a shit about and a defense that I could pass for 300 yards against. And then they go and do something stupid like bring the coolest guy in the world into their organization.
While I do weep for Philly for losing such a football stud, I am curious to see if B-Dawk can single-handedly bring back the days of the Orange Crush.
Oh, and big ups to Tom Jackson.

Although I have some delicious posts swimming around in my head (fathead redux, all-god NFL team, NFL capitalizing on FF by visualizing stats), for now I want to say I am in love with Brian Dawkins. Man, what a great day. It’s such a great feeling that I will admit to loving that ‘Bad Day’ song in ESPN’s Playoff Fantasy Football commercial.
